The Jennings City Clerk of Court’s office has 3 different departments:
Civil: Banks, finance companies, garnishments and loans between individuals come through the Clerk of Court’s office to file legal charges.
Criminal: Misdemeanors and criminal charges at the city level are filed in the City Clerk of Court’s office.
Traffic: City traffic and DWI tickets issued are handled through the City Clerk of Court’s office. Tickets may be paid at the Clerk’s office or online at www.quickcourt.biz/jennings.
The City Court of Jennings generally exercises concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in civil cases where the amount in controversy does not exceed $30,000*. In criminal matters, the City Court of Jennings has jurisdiction over city ordinance violations and misdemeanor violations of state law. It also handles a large number of traffic cases.
The City Court of Jennings also exercises concurrent jurisdiction with the district court over juvenile matters, in both delinquency cases and Child in Need of Care (CINC) cases. It also presides over juvenile traffic matters.
* The small claims division accepts claims up to $5000.
